Frankenstein's Monster

Frankenstein’s monster, often referred to Frankenstein, is a monster created by the scientist Victor Frankenstein in Mary Shelley’s novel, The Modern Prometheus.  Victor Frankenstein pieced him together.  In the old movies, you would see that Frankenstein’s monster would be lying in a bed, and Victor would press this button to have him rise up to the celling.  Then that would make him come alive.  Frankenstein’s monster was born like a fully grown newborn despite his size.  The mind is like a “blank slate” which only learns to be good or bad from its experiences.  So the monster was not born good or born bad, it just learns the bad behaviors from those around him.  It was an easy story to make because the monster was well known.  There were many black and white movies about Frankenstein, and how he became alive.  The first film of Frankenstein was made in 1910, the film was only 16 minutes but it was the first motion picture adaption for Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.  Next it was Life Without Soul made in 1915, and etc.  There was a list of movies based on Frankenstein from 1910 – 1994.

People have their decisions on if Frankenstein’s monster is good or evil.  People say he was not born evil, other say he was.  The ones that say he wasn’t born evil it was the doctors fault for making him seem evil to most people.  In the novel, Victor felt guilty that he brought a new life into this world, without being able to take care of the monster.  Victor runs away in fear and disgust from his creation. Frankenstein to me is terrifying to look at.  Shelley described Frankenstein’s monster as an 8-foot-tall, hideous creature, with translucent yellowish skin pulled so taut over the body, watery, glowing eyes, flowing black hair, black lips and prominent white teeth.  People have their different outlooks about Frankenstein.  I think it’s terrifying to look at because there is a nail sticking out of both sides of his neck, also the way his skin is.  This is a good character that is used for Halloween.  My cousins in face would always have a haunted house at their place, and my uncle played Frankenstein.  He would just stand in the corner with the candy pretending he was just a statue.  When kids came closer he would jump at them and the kids would run off.  Frankenstein easily scared kids, not only because of the way he looks, but his height.  He was 8 feet tall; there is really no one that is that tall.  Ever since I was little, watching the movies, and going to my cousins haunted house I was scared of him, and I still am to this day.  It’s just a creature I would not want to look at.  Frankenstein does not mean any harm to anyone though.  He was mad by a scientist, and the scientist didn’t teach him any of the right ways of life.  He didn’t know how to control himself, that is why people were so scared of him.  Frankenstein could really hurt people because he is a big strong monster.
